In the 2020\/2021 crop year, the amount of soy planted on land areas cleared between 2014 and 2020 was 0.62 million hectares in the Cerrado, which represents 10.6% of total deforestation in the biome. For the same period, 80.5% was concentrated in Matopiba.2<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

We have therefore expanded the scope of our work to cover 70% of the recent risk of soy-related deforestation and conversion in the Cerrado<\/strong>. The SCF\u2019s work focuses on a set of 61 municipalities that accounted for 26% of all soy planted in the Cerrado in 2020\/2021.2<\/sup><\/a><\/span> This, when combined with the overall decline in soy-driven conversion taking place across the biome, represents the breadth and depth of our cooperative work to protect native vegetation while promoting sustainable soy cultivation. It is also worth noting that several of these municipalities currently have a fairly low rate of conversion to soy.<\/p>\n

This scope\u2019s expansion is the result of a public consultation organized with over 30 representatives from civil society, academia and the private sector. <\/strong><\/p>\n
